This past weekend, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca kicked off the official start of the 2025 season with a packed schedule of community events. With the return of two year-round favorites and the annual Volunteer Orientation, it was a weekend full of excitement, connection, and fresh momentum; a reminder that Laguna Seca is more than a raceway but a pillar for the community.

Race to Space, now in its second year, welcomed over 110 curious minds on Friday, February 21. Held in collaboration with the Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy (MIRA), the fun, educational, family friendly activity takes place on the Lakebed Island with unobstructed views of the night sky. Amateur and professional astronomers set up telescopes of all shapes and sizes and encouraged attendees to explore the night sky up close. Those looking for a reference could check the MIRA website for a detailed sky map from the night. It was a night of curiosity and discovery, proving once again why this event has become a favorite.

The next morning, Cars & Coffee drew an impressive crowd, with over 700 cars filling the Lakebed and nearly $3,500 raised for Friends of Laguna Seca. Enthusiasts from near and far showcased and admired an incredible variety of vehicles, from sleek supercars to classic hot rods, custom builds, and vintage beauties. Aficionados fueled up with freshly brewed coffee from Dieseldorff Coffee, a high-quality Guatemalan brand with strong ties to the Monterey Peninsula. Meanwhile, LightSpeed Track Events provided a thrilling backdrop with cars ripping around the legendary circuit.

Following Cars & Coffee, new and returning volunteers gathered at the Hospitality Pavilion for the 2025 Season Kick-Off and Orientation. The morning attracted an impressive 185 attendees including 63 first-time volunteers, reflecting the growing enthusiasm and renewed passion surrounding the raceway. A major highlight of the event was the announcement of the evolution of the volunteer association into Friends of Laguna Seca Volunteers with all communication and coordination now streamlined under Volunteer Coordinator Madison Hutchison. Now in her second year, Madison reassured the group with her professionalism and clear direction, setting the tone for a well-organized and exciting season ahead.

With the 2025 season now in motion, the energy at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca under the direction of Friends of Laguna Seca is undeniable. Whether you're a racing fan, a community member looking for a fun event, or someone looking to give back, there’s never been a better time to be part of the action. Stay tuned for more events, updates, and ways to engage throughout the year!
