WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is renowned for its thrilling racing action, but behind every successful event stands a dedicated team ensuring safety and efficiency on the track. The unsung heroes of this effort are the Course Marshals—vigilant professionals stationed at key points around the raceway. Their role is critical, and now, thanks to a partnership with the United States Auto Club (USAC), their training has reached a new level of excellence.

With approximately 30 Course Marshals on staff, these individuals are responsible for monitoring on-track activities, responding to incidents, and maintaining raceway safety protocols. Their presence is essential not only during major races but also whenever the track is in use, including facility rentals and private testing sessions. Every event at WeatherTech Raceway relies on the expertise of this dedicated crew.

Seeking to enhance safety, consistency, and professionalism, WeatherTech Raceway adopted USAC’s training system, a move recommended by other leading motorsports venues. The program offers official certification, with each participant receiving a credentialed hard card and the Raceway itself earning certification.

Serving as a Course Marshal comes with both challenges and rewards. The job demands stamina, as marshals must remain at their posts for extended periods in varying weather conditions. However, the privilege of witnessing racing action up close and playing a pivotal role in event safety makes the position deeply fulfilling.

Some of Laguna Seca’s Course Marshals have dedicated upwards of 20 years to their craft, a testament to their passion for motorsports and commitment to safety. USAC’s seasoned training staff—whose experience includes working at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and collaborating with top sanctioning bodies such as IMSA and INDYCAR—was highly impressed with the skill level and engagement of the Raceway’s Marshals.

With USAC’s training program now in place, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca’s Course Marshals are more prepared than ever to uphold the highest standards of track safety. Their dedication and expertise ensure that every race weekend runs smoothly, allowing fans and drivers alike to focus on what they love most—the thrill of motorsports.
